About Pelekas
Pelekas is a very old village, and has been popular with even emperor’s. For instance, Emperor William II, who enjoyed the view from the top of Pelekas so much that he created his own place “Kaiser’s Throne”. A panoramic view and now a tourist destination. Here is a blog with more information about Kaiser’s Throne.
Currently, the population of Pelekas is around 600 which has fluctunated up and down for the past couple 100 years. The village has a festival on August 23rd for the The Virgin Odhigitria where tradional music and dancing occurs. Meat and drinks are also served, at these festivals you will have the best experience of the greek culture. There are, however, 6 churches in the village.
Like mostly all other villages on the island of Corfu, there are many olive trees, which was the main source of income until the recent past when tourism took over the island.
Furthermore, there are many reasons why Pelekas is a good place to stay during your time in Corfu and below I will give you some recommendations.
The View
Pelekas is in Mid West Corfu and is about 250 meters above sea level. The view of the Ionian is stunning, with an amazing sunset for most of the year.
Not only does Pelekas have this view of the Ionian, but they also have a great view of the east.
This is the view from Kaiser’s Throne. The top of Pelekas which has a panoramic view of Corfu.
Traditional VIllage
Still a very traditional village. Walking around the village, through the small alley ways, seeing the old ladies sitting on the stoop and the old men at the local Kafenio gives a refreshing sense that brings you back in time a bit.
So while you are here, definitely take a walk around, say Yiassou to whoever you see and sit and have a Greek coffee at the local Kafenio.
Kaiser’s Throne
I’ve already mentioned Kaiser’s Throne a couple of times however, i haven’t posted a picture. So here you go.

Paragliding

BEACHES
So obviously, one of the most important things for 99% of people coming on holidays to Corfu are the beaches. Well Pelekas is close to a couple different beaches that are really some of the best on Corfu.
Pelekas Beach (Kontogialos Beach) – This beach is right below the village and is a sandy beach with shallow waters, sunbeds, beach bars and restaurants. The road down is a bit steep and parking can be difficult in some places, but your time here will be enjoyed. Mainly, locals come to this beach, usually in the evening.
Glyfada Beach – Not too much further is a similar looking beach but bigger! Glyfada is a long sandy beach with more of the same. However, here you will have an easier time finding parking.\
Mirtiotissa Beach – Corfu’s most popular nudist beach. It is only a 5-10 minute drive from the village. The views are stunning, the sand is golden and the people are naked. The road down is not the best and is quite steep.
Yaliskari Beach – A small and quiet beach. Yaliskari beach is not too popular, however, it is surrounded by nature, and is very peaceful.
Here is a blog with some beaches closest to My Corfu Scooters, ( which is close to Pelekas) and is more in detail)
Restaurants
These are the closest places around! However, I highly recommend renting a car from Mega Rent a Car
or obviously a scooter from us! to go around the island and visit many other places.
